What the Extended Look Means for GTA VI 100% Completion

Most coverage of the August 27 Extended Look focused on the spectacle. We watched it the way a completionist does: what is going to end up on the checklist? Quite a lot, it turns out — and two blink-and-you-miss-it UI prompts may matter more than anything in the action scenes.

1. Focus mode is a built-in collectible detector

Previews describe a “Focus” ability that highlights nearby points of interest — including collectibles and opportunities. If that shipping behavior holds, it changes how collectible hunting works in practice: GTA V made you comb the map blind or alt-tab to a wiki, which is precisely why collectibles were the most time-expensive 100% category. A first-party detector shortens the floor. It does not eliminate the need to know what exists and how many of each — Focus tells you something is nearby, not whether you have 61 of 80. That count is the job of a tracker, and it is exactly what Hundo is built to hold from day one.

2. The “Study” prompt hints at a wildlife category

In the NPC-interaction segment — the one everyone shared because you can pet the dog — the interaction menu includes a Study option on animals. Rockstar has said nothing about what it does. But the company’s last game, Red Dead Redemption 2, attached its compendium to exactly this verb, and completing animal entries was part of RDR2’s total completion. If GTA VI ships a Leonida wildlife compendium, that is an entire checklist category no pre-launch list has accounted for. We are treating it as unconfirmed — but we have already reserved room for it in our category structure.

3. Chapters change how missables work

Multiple hands-off previews describe the campaign as chapter-based. Rockstar has not used the word publicly, so file it as reported rather than confirmed. If true, it is the single most important structural fact for completionists: chapter boundaries are the natural place for content windows to close. GTA V’s few genuine lock-outs were tied to story beats, and a formal chapter structure makes those beats explicit. The practical rule does not change — clear available side content before advancing the story — but chapter breaks give you an obvious moment to run a checklist audit. Our completion order guide is already organized around exactly that habit.

4. Money is reportedly part of progression now

Previews report that some story progression requires having cash on hand, with side work — robberies, fencing stolen vehicles and jewelry, odd jobs — as the way to earn it. In GTA V, money was almost irrelevant to 100%; you could finish the checklist nearly broke. If GTA VI gates story beats behind income, side activities stop being optional flavor and become part of the critical path. That tilts the optimal route toward doing paid side content early, and it is a reason to expect the 100% checklist to interleave with the economy in a way the series has not done before.

5. The activity list just got longer

The Extended Look put a montage of hobbies on screen: gun range challenges, zoo visits, car meets, street and track racing, base jumping, backyard wrestling, and more, on top of the kayaking, basketball, and mini golf we already knew about. In every modern GTA, a defined subset of hobbies was required for 100% — GTA V required 42 of 61. A longer confirmed list almost certainly means a longer required list. The full running inventory is in our confirmed activities tracker, and each entry is already a trackable item in the Hundo checklist.

What we are deliberately not doing

The 80-hour campaign figure circulating from previews is not a Rockstar number, and no outlet has published an official 100% requirements list because none exists. Sites presenting either as settled are guessing. Our estimates live in the how-long guide and are labelled as estimates; the verified checklist publishes here on November 19, built from actual play.
